Eastmont Wildcats triumph over Wenatchee Panthers
November 6, 2018
Eastmont football played against Wenatchee in what many call the biggest game of the season. “The bridge of sportsmanship” or as most call it “Battle of the Bridges” is always an important factor in the rivalry between the schools. The game was held at The Apple Bowl in Wenatchee on November 1st, at 7:00 pm.
Eastmont made the first touchdown which was soon followed by a second, making the scores 14-0 at halftime. “They weren’t too distracted by everything on the line,” said Athletic Director Russ Waterman.
Wenatchee recovered a fumble in the third quarter and scored on the following drive to put the Panthers on the board. EHS was not able to find the endzone and had to rely on the defense for the duration.
Wenatchee scored its second touchdown in the fourth quarter but missed the extra point which left the score at Eastmont 14, Wenatchee 13. The final buzzer rang announcing Eastmont’s win, claiming them a league title.
“It was an exciting game, it’s always fun to win a rivalry game.” commented Coach Don. Eastmont’s team and their supporters were overjoyed at the historical win. “I can see the trophy staying here at Eastmont for many years to come because of the type of leadership our players are showing, and how our culture has changed,” said Coach Brookover.
To celebrate their success the football team decided to dye their hair blonde. The team can now be easily spotted around the high school due to their eye-catching do’s. “What a bunch of dorks- I’m just jealous I don’t have any hair to dye,” joked Coach Brookover.
Following their victory over Wenatchee, Eastmont will be moving on to round one of the state playoffs against Puyallup. The game will be held at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup on November 9th, at 7:00 pm. Eastmont High School will have a rooter bus for the game, the cost is $10 per student. Students need to sign up and turn in their permission slips by Thursday, November 8th.
