M.E.Ch.A. is helping students achieve their dreams

M.E.Ch.A. is a nationwide movement that helps Chicanos and Mexican Americans enroll in colleges, as well as get scholarships and financial aid. These meetings take place every Friday after school in room 707 with Mr. Sanchez at Eastmont High School.

M.E.Ch.A. gives students who otherwise would not further their education and continue working right out of High School, a chance to go to college and have a better future.

As stated by Mr. Sanchez, “M.E.Ch.A. is an opportunity that is given to students to achieve their dreams and goals’’.

This is an ever growing movement that has been going on since the 60’s which is helping thousands of Chicanos and Mexican Americans across the country every year. When asked their thoughts about this,

M.E.Ch.A. members responded by saying “I believe it will only keep on growing,” “Started around the mid 60’s, and has only grown since then”.

Lastly, M.E.Ch.A. is a perfect way to gain new friendships, social skills, confidence, and empowerment.

Mr. Sanchez certainly believes so. When asked this question, he responded with

“It certainly does, It helps build character and gives us a voice. You are exposed to different experiences and things you otherwise might not have ever seen or even heard of”.

M.E.Ch.A. helps minorities be the change we want to see in the world.
