On Wednesday October 9, 2024 the school was placed on SECURE.
Around 2:15 pm Eastmont High School was placed in SECURE after a PE walking class notified the office that they saw a suspicious person in the stadium/football field. The person was acting oddly and jumped the fence to leave. Students said that they saw him holding something and some said it looked like a weapon.
As a precaution the Principal Mr. Elder placed EHS in SECURE. A SECURE is when students get inside the building and into locked classrooms. Administrators lock the outside schools doors but inside, classes remain doing business as usual.
During Wednesday’s incident, the main office called the Police, the police responded and searched the area and when the police gave the school the all clear around 2:35 pm they released the teacher and students for the SECURE.
Ayla Soto, sophomore, was one the students in the PE class when she said that they saw a suspicious person at the field. Soto described how the teacher, Mrs Pease, blew the whistle and took the students behind the bleachers. Students were taking pictures of the person. After they went back inside the school to their classroom and waited for the SECURE to be released.
Head of security Mrs. Fries said, “Great to say we were prepared on what to do. Most students did good, though some students were wanting to leave when the bell rang for dismal but it is important for them to follow the teacher’s direction.”
