A big change happened for Eastmont which caused a lot of frustration for teachers and students. Monday, September 16th Eastmont started using a new bell schedule that took 6 minutes from lunch and added a minute to each class period.
People are furious about the new change and even had students such as Owen Martinez-Meza creating his own petition to get the old schedule back. Currently the petition has been signed by 418 people with a goal of having 500 signatures. As of September 30th there has been no word as to if the petition will be put into consideration by the board, but still students are trying to fight for the schedule back.
But what does Eastmont High School’s principal Del Enders think of the situation?
When asked what he thinks of the new schedule his response was “I think the new schedule is solid. It still provides an extended lunch, which students appreciate, while decreasing school safety issues that came with a longer lunch. The new schedule also provides extra instructional time, so students and teachers can get more work done during the day rather than at home”.
Another question was what he has to say to the staff and students who are angry about the new schedule, his response is “For students and staff unhappy with the new schedule, I totally get it—change a challenge and 45 minutes for lunch is hard to give up. However, in the long run, I think everyone will support the new schedule”.
It is safe to say that Mr.Ender’s supports the new schedule and hopes that soon everyone will appreciate the new schedule.
