Have you ever been to a football game and noticed how when one player plays well they get hyped up by the team? At the football game at Eastmont High School on September 27th this energy was obvious. The team looked like a family, celebrating one another’s victories and empathizing with each other’s misfortune.
Abdoul Boureima is a sophomore and plays tight end. He stated his teammates have helped him grow as a person and facing diverse situations as a team has brought them together.
Abdoul said, “My team has impacted my life a lot, I’ve learned to develop a better work ethic, for example, if we’re losing by a lot to keep working and never stop giving 100%. If we lose, it’s not just one of us; no matter whether we win or lose we do it together.”
This type of grit and determination is what we are missing in the world today. The shared hardship and success these boys face as a team has brought them together and has made them one.
Assistant Coaches “Fig” Figeroa and Bush also commented on how our football team resembles a family. Both coaches gave very comical yet impactful responses, mirroring the dynamic of the team as a whole.
Coach Fig responded, “My family stresses me out but I still love them”
Coach Bush agreed, saying,” Our family stresses us out, but we’re always there for each other.”
Following that, Coach Bush commented on how football has evolved his character.
Coach Bush said, “ Football has helped me grow as a leader and it has given me the opportunity to give back to the younger generation.”
Sophomore Aj Saenz, corner, also gave his comments on the team dynamic.
Aj said that he thinks football has for sure improved his character: “It has helped me improve because now, I have learned to judge people less”.
In a society where from the day we are born we are introduced to judging others and looking down on individuals we don’t even know, anyone could see this is a beautiful lesson football is teaching to the youth.
Aj said he thinks that football resembles a family because everybody on the team has a job and they all work together.
Aj also said more people should join football “Because football is the greatest sport ever and you get to hit people”
