On Saturday, January 18th, 2025, the United States government banned the infamous social media app, TikTok. The bill was sent throughout the Senate for the national security risk posed by the Chinese government’s involvement with the app. This ban influenced and affected millions nationwide, for good or bad.
Christian Puente, a senior at Eastmont High School, gave us his insight on the matter.
He said, “I wasn’t that affected by the TikTok ban because I don’t use the app, but I know a lot of people are mad about it.”
Many United States citizens are upset with the government for banning their precious app, causing hate and anger towards our appointed officials. However, some people, such as Christian Puente, are impervious to the matter because they disapprove of the app and its negative influences.
Furthermore, Tyronne Shaw, a junior attending Eastmont High School, gave us his views on the TikTok ban.
Shaw said, “Shout out to Trump for extending my TikTok streak, the ban wouldv’e ruined my 103 day streak with Gerardo Torres-Galvan.”
For some American TikTok users, they fear losing their “streaks” (a number that adds up after sending multiple videos back and forth each passing day). Their streaks incline them to remain on the app so they can compete for the largest number in order to uphold their egos.
The ban has been repealed as of Sunday, January 19th, 2025. This means that all of the complainers can finally keep a hold of their streaks and influential videos, and lack there of.
