Orchestra and Band Members were selling Papa Murphy’s pizza cards (peel-a-deal cards) which started on the 14th of February and ended on the 5th of March, these tickets were $8.00 each which was one of their cheapest fundraisers. Students were able to purchase these tickets whenever, but sometimes the band and orchestra members would set up a table at lunch where band and orchestra students would be selling.
Mr. Mitsuyasu, the band and orchestra teacher at EHS, said “I’m excited about our fundraiser because it’s something a little different from what I’ve seen offered. Most people like pizza, and this is a great way to get some while supporting a good cause. The discounts people can get from the “Peel-a-Deal” cards are really pretty good, too. If they use at least two of the stickers, they should be getting $8 worth of value out of it, which is the cost of the card when they buy it from us. I think people should buy the cards because it will help our band and orchestra students take advantage of an awesome opportunity to perform for other high schools, visit a college campus and work with the music professors there, and make some new friends that will last for years after graduation. Many of my best high school friends were the ones I travelled with on band trips like this, and I still hear from a few of them!”
Band and Orchestra were selling these pizza cards so that they can pay for a fun and educational field trip, both band and orchestra need to raise around $3,000 to $5,000 to be able to cover all costs on this trip (buses, hotel, & food) and the students that will go on this trip need to pay roughly about $150 to $100 each.
Kamila Gonzalez-Diaz or Kami, a sophomore at EHS and in orchestra, said “I think it’s an awesome idea selling our tickets as it helps us create more opportunities for Band and Orchestra kids, and allows us to strengthen our music program in general.”
Kylie Polak, a junior at EHS and in both band and orchestra, added “Papa Murphy’s is also super yummy and you get awesome deals with the tickets.”
This specific fundraiser brought in around $2,000 profit. If the music programs don’t raise enough money they won’t be able to go on this trip which would be unfortunate since on this trip they play for two different high schools, do some clinics with some music professors, explore a college campus, get to play in a park for the public, and get to have a little hangout time with their fellow classmates.
Holden Klingel, a senior at EHS and in band, said “Band is a big part of some of our lives. Unfortunately, since the program doesn’t have much money, our opportunities to travel and do fun things are very limited. A fundraiser is a simple (and hopefully effective) way to raise money for the program. Everyone in the Band and Orchestra programs would gladly appreciate any support we can get.”
