Here at Eastmont High School, breakfast, lunch, and even snacks are provided for students everyday for free. They offer a wide variety of food, but what do students think about the food? I decided to ask a few students about their opinions on the school’s food and here’s what they said:
Alexis Eggers, a sophomore, said, “It’s not my favorite, the chicken sandwiches are dry, and the parfaits give me a stomach ache”
Maggie Ezpinoza also a sophomore, said “I don’t eat it, because I don’t like it, and lines are too long”
Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are offered to all students for free which means more students are taking advantage of this opportunity leading to longer lines. However, the school ensures that no student here at Eastmont goes hungry.
Emma Stanford, said, “I like the variety of food they offer, but I think the actual food could be better”
Kylie Gaus, said, “It’s not good, I think they could try harder and give us healthier food”
The school does have to follow certain rules and encourage the use of reduced sodium, sugar, and low fat foods, also food with no little to no nutritional value cannot be sold/provided to students, and all of the meals meet the current USDA requirements.
Natalie Mattern, said, “I really like the corn dogs, I think they should serve them daily, but other than that it’s bad”
The menu changes daily offering students a variety of food to choose from. These menus can be seen online on the school district website.
Overall, students have mixed feelings about the food, some appreciate the variety and items like the corn dogs, but most feel like the quality could be improved, and that the food could be healthier. However, the school has to follow certain rules, including encouraging students to eat healthier while avoiding foods with little to no nutritional value, meals served at school meet all of the USDA requirements providing balanced and nutritious options for all students.
