The second round of the Stanley cup is nearing its end. And the fans are entertained. And some feel like ignoring what has happened. The game of hockey, is only getting started… And the most boiling subject as of now, is the Dallas Stars, giving a relentless beating to the Winnipeg Jets. A team that was projected to be the winner of the Stanley Cup this year is being steamrolled by Dallas. How? Let me Explain.
Currently, it is 3-2 with Dallas in the lead. Sounds crazy right? I mean, Dallas this whole season has been off and on with its ranking and stats, being the 5th overall team this season, having a record of 50 W- 26 L – 6 OTL and ended with 116 PTS, a pretty good record. Whilst the current opponents that Dallas is facing, is the dreaded Winnipeg Jets, who went 56 W – 22 L – 4 OTL, and 116 PTS. The top record of the season in wins and points.
Both of these teams have had a rivalry throughout the regular season because of the 4 Nations Tournament from awhile back. The reason? The Goalies. On the one side, we have a potential Vezina “winner” Connor Hellebuyck, who had the TOP goalie record of the regular season. Whilst in the other corner, we have a true wall to never be underestimated, Jake Oettinger, having been the #3 ranking goalie in the regular season. Both were destined to be either the starter or back-up goalie for the 4 nations tournament. Which sparked a rivalry between the goalies, and more importantly… The Fans.
Both Dallas and Winnipeg had feud over the goalies places for the tournament. Even as far as making chants when both teams played each other. Like Winnipeg’s infamous “US BACK-UP” chant when Oettinger was struggling in of the the regular season games. And as of now during the playoffs, Dallas fired back with a chant saying “OETTINGER’S BETTER”, a plethora of feud between these teams. And neither side is going easy…
we got players flinging others straight into their respective benches, insane body checking into the boards, fights, goals that bring insanity, and things are only getting more heated by the day. Which brings us to the whole thing about Dallas.
Many believed they were genuinely one of the few teams in the Stanley cup contention that would be sent right out because of the other absolute Juggernaut teams that were supposed cup winners. Due to Stars being so inconsistent about their strength and wins, NO ONE, expected Dallas to shred the playoffs …
But how badly everyone underestimated the Stars.
The Stars, are proving just how wrong many spectators were, how the no one should underestimate a team with the might like the Dallas Stars. currently they are making Winnipeg look like frauds for what they were in the regular season. Giving a whole new perspective to people that see Winnipeg.
Which was interesting to see, because the Stars had struggled in the first round against a team like the Colorado Avalanche. But it seems more than likely that Dallas has found their footing in the playoffs, and now more than have their eyes on the cup. They seem to have a shot of winning the whole playoffs if they continue keeping their power and dominance.
