Teacher Feature: Paula Huylar

More than Love for Math

Sophie Bills, Reporter

Brownies and ice cream after a test. Who wouldn’t want in? Paula Huylar has been teaching math at Eastmont for more than 35 years. She has taught it all but is currently instructing students in Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-Calc. With hundreds of students saying that Huylar is one of their favorites, brownies are just one of the ways that Huylar truly gives back to others.

She comes in each day with a smile on her face and an eager desire to help her students learn the basics of mathematics. While she does not make the kids’ hands ache from extensive note-taking in her class, she does get the point across on how to solve the problems and makes sure that they understand how to do that correctly.

What truly sets Mrs. Huylar apart from other math teachers is that she is similar to a loving mother: she helps, teaches, cares, and loves her students. She willingly goes the extra mile to make sure that her kids understand math and all of the confusing concepts of it.
