Protecting the Quarterback

On Friday, September 28, Eastmont High School held their Homecoming football game against West Valley Yakima. The Wildcats beat the Rams 37-24. For the Offensive line, it was their best game of the season, so far. “In the second half they had their ‘aha’ moment and they gained confidence,” said Assistant Coach Shaine Brookover.

The front four opened opportunities for quarterback Carson Everhart to throw two touchdowns and a myriad of crucial passes. “You have to have protection to throw the ball, so they made sure that he had protection,” stated Head Coach Mike Don.

To prepare for the big game, the offensive line dressed up as security guards to “protect” the quarterback. “It was just kind of for fun. . . to help us bond a little bit more” explained Carsen Paine about their security crew. The group was seen surrounding Everhart and escorting him from class to class. The team-building exercise may have helped to solidify the importance of these primary players’ roles.“We blocked who we needed to block, we were prepared” said Andrew Snyder of Friday’s homecoming win.
