EHS Graduation Nigh 2022

Eastmont High School seniors, just months away from graduation, are eager about what lies ahead of them. While all will miss the memories made here at EHS, most students are ready to see what the next chapter of their lives will bring.

Senior year is one of the most exciting years of your childhood because it is the end of a huge part of your life. Students go through 13 years of grade school and make countless friends, memories, and form relationships that they will take with them throughout the rest of their lives.

“I’m going to miss seeing the people who I don’t see outside of school and the teachers that I see everyday.” Tamrynn Heimbigner, EHS senior, says when asked what she will miss most about Eastmont High School. Along with Tamrynn, many other students said this same thing regarding teachers and friends who they don’t see outside of the time they spend at EHS.

Although there are many things that students will miss about grade school, the majority of students are ready to start their lives outside of high school. I asked senior Austin Ruffins what he was most looking forward to after high school and he replied, “No more school.” This was a common response when I asked this same question to other seniors.

When I heard these responses from members of this year’s senior class, it made me think, ‘What would the juniors’ responses be if asked the same questions?’ Although they still have over a year left before they graduate, a lot of the answers were the same as the seniors who are less than 75 days away from walking across the stage at graduation.

Neiko Wellborn, a junior at EHS, responded, “I am ready to get out of high school.” While members of the class of 2022 say that they wish they would have done more in the short time they attended the high school.

When I asked previous seniors what they would have done differently looking back on their high school years, 2021 senior, Jack Gudmundson says, “I would’ve spent more time worrying about the things in life that mattered to me, rather than what mattered to everyone else.” I think a lot of students can benefit from hearing this because in high school, we all try to adapt to our surroundings and fit in so that people will like us, but at the end of the day, who cares? We are all our own people and in just a few short years, we’re not going to talk to most of the people we see everyday anyways.
