Iron Lung is the debut film of Mark Edward Fischbach, aka Markiplier. This film has been highly anticipated for nearly three years, but does it live up to the hype?
The film is a slow burn, a solid two hours in one setting, with very few other characters physically appearing throughout the film. The lack of other characters really adds to the isolation that Simon (Markiplier’s character) feels. For a first-time director, Markiplier handles this unique story and small budget quite well. The film does not feel like it was made on a shoestring budget and could easily pass as a big-budget horror film.
The film is not without issue, however. The backstory to the film may be unclear if you are unfamiliar with the source material, as the film does not take much time to explain the lore outside of the opening and the hallucination sequence later on. The lack of clear answers and overall “artsy” feel to the movie could be a turnoff to more traditional moviegoers.
Summary: Ye it’s pretty good.
