People often question how our school holds so many cool events, like community service, decorations, and fundraisers. These fun events are made possible by our very own Key Club. But what really is the Eastmont Key Club? In the words of Alex Zavala (the Eastmont Key Club Treasurer), the Eastmont Key Club is “A volunteer group that does community service and other activities to better the community.” These things include cleaning up trash, running fundraisers, and hosting events. In fact, the Eastmont Key Club is hosting an upcoming fundraiser called “soles for souls,” a shoe drive for the less fortunate. The Key Club also helps with things like the “Math is Cool” program, where volunteers assume the roles of proctors. Proctors, in the Math is Cool program, help tutor younger students as well as help with stuff like reading questions and passing out papers. Even Alex Zavala stated that helping out with Math is Cool was his “favorite contribution to his community” through the Key Club. Now you might be asking yourself, “How do I join the Key Club?” Well, you can talk to any Key Club member to join, or if you don’t know any, you can wait for the club fairs at lunch that happen once per semester. The Key Club currently has around 30 members and has hosted and helped with around 15 to 20 events this year. The Eastmont Key Club is a great way for students to give back to their community and ultimately have a real impact on other people’s lives.
