Recently, on April 6th, 2026, the newest game by Nintendo was released. Tomodachi Life:
Living the Dream. This game is already very popular, and many people are loving it. The game is
a modern and updated version of its ancestor, Tomodachi Life for the Nintendo 3DS. The game
itself is a sort of life sim, almost like Nintendo’s version of The Sims. You could almost call
yourself God inside the game. You create the residents that live there, you create and manage the
land they live on, what their beliefs are, and who they are. The residents of the island are called
“Miis,” pronounced meesz.
First, let’s compare the main differences between the two games and what makes the new game
worth purchasing. Both the original and the newest game allow you to customize the appearances
of your residents with in-game clothing or by editing their faces. You can change the eyes, the
nose, the mouth, etc… But the new game not only adds new customization options for those, but
it also allows you to add face paint to the Miis. You can essentially draw on your own faces onto
your Miis or even add your own makeup or designs. This really opens up the possibilities for your
Miis in the game. You can create characters much more closely and in detail. This is a huge new
addition to the series. In the original game for the 3DS, the island has a fixed design, and you
are unable to customize it and move buildings around like in the newest game. In both of the
games, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of built-in items, like food, objects, tools, clothing, etc,
but in the newest game, you can create your own items and clothes for your Miis. You get to draw
the designs of the items yourself in the game. This can make for some funny moments when your
Miis start interacting with each other and talking and or playing with the custom items you give
them. Another big difference in the new game that is not possible in the old game is intersex
marriage and having children. In the new game, when creating a Mii, you can choose its gender. It
can be either Male, Female, or Non-Binary. You also get to choose that Mii’s dating preferences;
again, either Male, Female, or Non-Binary. This allows you to have two Male or Female Miis get
married and have children with each other, which was not possible in the older game. The new
game also introduces things called “quirks,” which are pretty much just different personality traits
that you can give your Miis to let them have custom personalities. In the new game, there is also
an island level and a happiness level. The island level lets you unlock island customization options
so you can make your island more personal to you, the more you play. There are also many other
new features added into the new game that were not present in the original, as well as some
improvements made, but I will not be covering those in this article.
Next, for the costs of the games. The new game can be purchased in either digital or physical
form. The prices for the game can range from $60 to $75, depending on where you get it from or if
it is on sale. The game runs perfectly fine on either the Nintendo Switch 1 or 2, so you don’t have
to worry about needing to spend an extra $500 even to play the game. The older game is for the
Nintendo 3DS and its variants. I would not recommend purchasing the older version unless you
absolutely do not want to mod your old 3DS console. But if you do, you can easily play the game
for free. The same can be said for the new Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream game. You can find
the game room online, download it onto your pc and play it with an emulator like Ryujinx. But
I cannot tell you how to actually do that legally. But it is not hard to figure out how, and there are
thousands of tutorials on it online.
But is the game actually worth it? Yes, I would say it is worth it, if you are not like me and don’t
play the game almost non-stop, you will get a lot of playtime spread across a month, if not several.
It has a bunch of new features that make the game even more fun than it was before on the 3DS.
Also, the Tomodachi Life games are chill and not super demanding for your attention. Although
some of the mini games you play with your residents can be quite challenging occasionally. But
overall, if you don’t feel like playing a super fast-paced first/third-person shooter or a strategy
style game, then Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream would be a perfect fit for you! But one note I
do have to say is that I do not believe that the game is worth $60-$75. I would be fine with ~$40
or lower, but at the moment, the price is way too high for me to justify it. But if you have the money
lying around, just waiting to be spent, then for sure go and purchase the game!
Finally, the new Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream game for the Nintendo Switch One and Two
was a long-awaited sequel to the original game on the Nintendo 3DS systems. Many people,
myself included, have been wanting a new Tomodachi Life game for a very long time, and that
dream has finally come! The new game has a stockpile of new features and improvements from
the original game! Many people are absolutely loving it! So, what are you waiting for? Go get the
game today!
