On March 27, both the Eastmont Wildcats and Wenatchee Panther’s fastpitch softball programs had a face-to-face battle across the river. The Eastmont girls team traveled to the Panther’s home field to protect their roughly 20-game winning streak, dating back to 2018.
The Panthers put up a tough fight against the struggling Wildcats, who had lost their starting pitcher to a head injury the week prior. The Eastmont girls’ team was able to hold their own and persevered through this challenge. The Panthers, keeping the score close, were able to pull ahead in the bottom of the 4th inning due to many great at-bats. Not long after, multiple home runs were hit, each by the 3rd batter in the lineup, Halle Radach, and the 4 hitter, Ava Garcia. The Wildcats got back up, and Makenna Eakle brought in multiple runs, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Eastmont kept the Panthers on their toes and, with their strong performance, finished the game 18-16.
The teams did not have to wait long for their next rematch after a quick game break. Eastmont and Wenatchee jumped back into action, both having something to prove. Once again, Wenatchee played a strong game, but not strong enough to keep the Wildcats down. Eastmont pulled through, taking the lead back from Wenatchee, and eventually won 20-11 due to another home run from Halle Radech and the center fielder, Maddie Wood.
Eastmont faced many challenges from injury to slow-starting games, but with their winning streak on the line, they kept their spirits high, along with their energy, refusing to give up to the Wenatchee Panthers. The Wildcats softball team brought home 2 more wins against the Panthers, keeping their streak alive and staying ready for another face-off next year.
