Sophomore Emma Knott and Senior Caelen Massey have been selected as Easmont’s Athletes of the Month for their performance and character in the month of September. Knott has already secured a state birth as she has clocked times faster than the qualifying standard. “Emma is a fierce competitor in the pool but has a huge heart,” stated Head Coach Darcy Bruggman. Knott took the Mukileteo Invite by storm and earned her way to the state championships in both the 50m and 100m free. “She is positive, supportive and kind to all her teammates at practice, at school, and at meets. I appreciate her heart, her drive, and dedication,” added Bruggman. Eastmont Swim and Dive will continue the season with several trips to Moses Lake for their final league meet, the District 6 Swim and Dive Championship Prelims and Finals at the end of October.

Alongside Knott, Massey was also touted for his character both on and off the field. Massey has stepped into a running back position after he began his senior year in the quarter back’s role. “He took a tough decision in stride and has shown that he is a true captain and teammate,” explained Head Coach Mike Don. Massey has accumulated several accolades for his time on the football field, but it is his leadership and character that earned him this title. He has shown humility and resilience plus a willingness to help his team in any way possible. Massey was the first to console quarterback Carson Everhart after a game-ending interception against non-league opponent West Valley Spokane. “I am extremely proud of Caelen as he proved why he was selected a captain by this team.” Massey’s contributions have proven effective as the Wildcats are currently 6-1 on the season and 3-0 in league play. EHS will take on Big 9 opponent Eisenhower Cadets in the 2018 “Cats for a Cure” breast cancer awareness game on Friday, October 19 at Wildcat Stadium.
