If you are interested and unable to pay, you can attend Wildcat Night, which is next Wednesday, March 18th!
Clara Lebow is a senior who has been in the club since her freshman year and would like to spread more information about the show.
The musical is set in the 1860s and follows four sisters. She says, “It’s a really beautiful story about growing up and finding your own way of life.” She also says it’s considered to be a very sad story with the death of a very beloved character. The general theme of the musical is about childhood, growing up, and also moving on. The show is being directed by Lana Bromiley, who is the Artistic Director of Stage Kids. She grew up doing theater and pursued it in college. Clara talks about Lana and says, “She has done probably millions of shows, way too many to count.”
Some other information is that there will be a pit orchestra playing in the musical. How it works is the live pit orchestra plays backstage left, in the wings. The distance between the stage and orchestra is about two feet. The orchestra consists of string instruments, flute, clarinet, saxophone, piano, and a bunch of other instruments. Putting together a musical can be very time-consuming and takes a lot of productivity. She says, “We started rehearsing on the fifth of January, and we spent a month learning our blocking and music, and then we started putting it together with the orchestra in February. Much of the rehearsals is also time for costuming and building the set.” A good thing to note and keep in mind is good viewing etiquette. She says, “Laugh and clap as much as possible. Performers love it when you react because it helps us give more energy. The more you clap, the better we perform. Please try not to talk, especially in quiet and sad scenes because it automatically makes us think that you are saying bad things about our performance.”
A couple of personal questions were asked to get a view of our main character in the cast.
“If you could pick and perform a different play or musical, what would it be?”
Clara replied with, “I LOVE Little Women and am VERY happy to get to be in it, but my dream show would have to be Anastasia.”
“Who did you audition for and who did you get?”
She said, “When I found out that we would be doing Little Women, I immediately started getting ready to try for the role of Jo March. I started learning the songs in July. I am so happy that I get to play Jo March!”
“Will the musical end up being a new favorite over Big Fish?”
She answered, “I think it’s like comparing apples and oranges. Big Fish is a more contemporary show, while Little Women is a little more of a classic and is very well known as a great high school show. I personally like the music of Big Fish better, but I think the plot of Little Women is more intricate and beautiful.”
The end goal for the musical is to leave the audience feeling inspired that even though a person’s life may change, their passion and love for life do not. Some closing thoughts she’d like people to know are, “Please come! It means a lot, and I think that you will enjoy it. You will laugh and cry. If you want to experience a beautiful story about life and love, come!”
Please come and show some love and support for our Wildcats! Either come to the free showing on Wildcat Night on March 18th in the auditorium at 7 pm, or help fund their future projects and come to their showings from the 19th-21st and the 26th-28th that is also at 7 pm!
